//LIVER SERIES: PART 3//
1. THE LIVER ENSURES THE SMOOTH FLOW OF QI:
What does it mean that the liver ensures the "smooth flow of Qi?" When Chinese books explain this function, they use words like disperse, extend, loosen, relax, circulate, make smooth and free and balance. The Liver ensures the smooth flow of Qi through the body and in all organs and all directions.
2. AFFECTS EMOTIONS: If the smooth flow of Qi is impaired then emotions such as frustration, depression and repressed anger can arise and you could feel physical symptoms like hypochondrial or abdominal distension, tight chest, and a feeling of a "lump" in the throat.
3. AFFECTS DIGESTION: If Qi is stagnate during digestion it can become rebellious and move upwards causing belching, regurgitation, nausea or vomiting.
4. AFFECTS SECRETION OF BILE: If Liver Qi flow smoothly then bile is secreted properly and digestion is good. If it is stagnant then bile flow may be obstructed resulting in bitter taste in mouth, belching, jaundice and inability to digest fats.
